Digital License – Natural Bridges

The Oregon Coast is one of the most picturesque places in the world. Its magnificent sea stacks, vibrant tide pools, and rugged cliffs make it ideal for experiencing the ocean’s raw power while also finding serenity in old-growth forests, hidden coves, secluded beaches, and iconic lighthouses.

The Oregon coastline is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and geographically diverse shores in the United States. The area between Brookings and Gold Beach, known as the Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor, is perhaps the most photogenic stretch of the coast. It boasts impressive sea stacks, natural arches, rugged beaches, waterfalls cascading down onto the beach, sea caves lined with anemones and starfish, and fewer crowds than other areas.

Although many scenic locations in the Boardman Corridor are easily accessible, the trail to the famous Natural Bridges rocks is hidden, difficult to find, and extremely steep. Initially, I planned to capture a sunrise photo with the sun’s rays shining through and behind the arches. I napped in my Jeep at the trailhead several hours before sunrise, hoping that the heavy rains would let up enough for me to attempt the hike down the cliffs to get the photo. While I did not get the shot I intended, I did capture a photo that I ended up liking much better, showcasing the drama and power of the ocean.
