Half Dome is my absolute favorite landmark in Yosemite Valley National Park. I’ve taken photos of Half Dome from Glacier Point, from the Valley Floor, from the North Dome, from bridges, from meadows, at sunrise, at sunset, in the summer, and in the winter. I’ve even done the Half Dome hike five times.
One of my favorite views of Half Dome is from a viewpoint on Big Oak Flat Road on the way up to Tioga Road. At an elevation roughly equal to that of Half Dome, it’s almost as if you’re looking at one another from across the Valley with Half Dome nestled in between El Capitan and the other layers of mountain ranges. No longer just a sunrise photo, the orange colors of the sky add a faint glow to the trees in the foreground.
